圣西满之名列于宗徒名单的第十一位, 圣经上称他为载洛德, 既“热诚者”,以示与西满伯多禄有别.生平不详, 信知他是一名出生于犹太卡纳城的渔夫. 根据圣教极为古老的传说, 至圣神降临后, 他和另一位门徒圣达陡远赴埃及,美索不达米亚, 波斯等地传教.并同时为传福音而一起殉道.

St.Simon is surnamed the Cananaean and also the Zealot,to distinguish him from St.Peter and St.Simeon,the brother of St.James the Less.From the first of these surnames, some have thought that St. Simon was born at Cana, in Galilee.The Syro- Chaldaic expression Cananaean means the same as the Greek Zelotes, a title that is said to have been given to him on account of his great zeal and fidelity called Zealots. No further mention appears of him in gospels, but thought that he with St. Judes were preached in Egypt, Cyrene, and Mauritania. It is supposed that he suffered martyrdom in Persia.
